For this Tech Tool Talk, we'll be talking about Google Docs.

What is Google Docs?

Google Docs is a tool, one of the many that Google provides, that allows anyone with a Google account to save any documents from a Word documents to an InDesign file.

Who Uses Google Docs?

It's hard to say how many people use Google Docs. According to a Jan. 27 article in the New York Times, there are 540 million active Google accounts but it is hard to say just how many of those account holders use Google Docs. Commercial users of Google Docs include Complex Media, National Geographic and Virgin America.

How Does Google Docs Work?

Easy-to-use is probably the best way to describe how Google Docs works. All a Google Doc user would have to do is go to their Google Drive and click on either the create or the upload button in the upper-left-hand corner of the screen. From there you can create or upload the document of your choice.

How Much Does Google Docs Cost?

Google Docs is free for anyone who has a Google account. Google has a different version for businesses called Google Apps for Business, which offers businesses the same features as the free version but also other security and productivity features as well. Pricing for the commercial options are $5 per month or $50 per year per user or $10 per user per month for the more advanced Google Apps For Business option.

Stand Out Benefits Of Google Docs

There are quite a few different benefits that stand out when it comes to Google Docs. From the massive amount of storage space that you get for free (15 GB) to the fact that you can choose who can see and edit the document. In addition to that, you can get to your Google Docs from any internet-enabled device so that you can get to your documents from anywhere at any time.

Google Docs also lets multiple people edit the same document at the same time as well as the option to work offline as long as you save the document that way and also see an particular document's complete revision history.
