Trick! Employees Who Crossed The Line

Trick! Employees Who Crossed The Line

Posted

In an earlier blog post, I wrote about a woman who put in a false claim for workers comp and got caught. As you can imagine, she was not the only employee that ever tried to trick their employer or the system for that matter.

With Halloween being this week, it's the time of the year for tricks and treats. I hope your employees think twice before “clowning around” in the workplace when it comes to issues that could cost them their job. Here are even more cases where employees did stupid things then suffered the consequences. Their stupidity gave me a chuckle, to say the least because I'm not quite sure where their mind was at the time. Hopefully others can learn from their mistakes and your employees never do such things.

1. One employee kept a journal about procrastination. Her boss caught her red handed and she was denied unemployment following.

2. An intern skipped work for a “family emergency” a Halloween party, as his employer later learned. He posted the photos on Facebook and got caught.

I found these examples in an article published by Woman's Day (I'm not afraid to admit I read Woman's Day sometimes). To read each case in detail, please view the article  The 7 Stupidest Employee Mistakes Ever.

3. One girl got a job offer with Cisco then tweeted about the commute and hating the work. Cisco tweeted back. We don't believe that job offer stuck. Source: Business Insider, 13 People Who Got Fired for Tweeting.

4. A waitress was fired for complaining about a customer on Facebook, according to The Huffington Post.

Moral of the story, employees need to think before they do!
