How to Choose the Right Staffing Solutions for Your Company

As businesses head into 2018, many are thinking of how they'll bring on new hires in the new year.  Q1 is a notorious time for bringing on new employees, and there will be plenty of businesses in your industry looking to bring on new people.  Wouldn't it be nice if there was a way to guarantee that you find the right employee, but don't have to go through the candidate search?  If you use staffing solutions, you can!

Choosing The Right Staffing Solutions For Your Company

On average, it can take 23 days to bring on a new employee. Much of that time is spent simply sorting through candidates, but luckily outsourcing hiring can dramatically reduce that time.  There are so many staffing companies available, it can be hard to find one that suits your needs.  If you follow the advice in this post, you'll be able to find staffing solutions that fit your company's needs.

Know What You Want

This may seem like an obvious first step for employers when they want to bring on someone new, but a lot of people make the mistake of looking for employees before they understand what kind of employee they want to bring on.  Some things like starting pay and benefits are simple enough to know, but there are other important factors to think about.  How flexible are you when it comes to years of experience and education levels? Are you willing to overlook a lack of a college degree or years of experience if the candidate has a solid portfolio?  Also take time to think about what skills are essential for the job, and which ones are just nice to have.  Don't waste time looking for an employee that can do it all, focus on skills that are needed to do the job well.

Look For Expertise

If you need a warehouse project manager, you wouldn't want a staffing agency that specializes in hiring designers and other creatives to handle the job search.  When you're looking for staffing solutions, it makes the most sense to work with companies that understand your industry.  It's also helpful to look beyond the industry and think about the kind of position you're trying to staff.  There are some staffing companies that specialize in filling CEO and leadership roles, and others that can find entry-level employees.

Know The Definition of "Placement"

It isn't uncommon for staffing companies to heavily promote the placement rates they have for the people they hire out. Before you get dazzled by the numbers, ask them what their definition of a successful placement is.  For some staffing companies, a successful placement is simply getting a company a new worker. They don't consider how long they've been on staff, or how satisfied the company is with the employee.  Be sure to ask them how long the employees they place stay on staff, and how employers would rate the placed employee's performance.

Ask For Reviews And Referrals

Any business offering professional staffing solutions should have a long list of satisfied clients that can provide references. Don't be shy about asking for references from companies they've handled staffing for. If you're able to speak with anyone about references, don't just focus on the outcomes of the engagement. Ask them how they felt during the placement process, and if they felt like the company was open and honest during the process.
