Administrative Support Jobs Outlook

Administrative Support Jobs Outlook

Posted

The job outlook is looking good for administrative support staff through 2020, according to researched I discovered in the Occupational Outlook Handbook by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. As a staffing firm that fills many of these types of jobs in various states including Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey (just to name a few), I just want to give you an overview of what you can expect from this career path, growth wise. I also want to give you some insight into how this job outlook can benefit you as an employer that is looking to fill such positions.

A Look at Projected Growth

12% Administrative Assistants

41% Medical Secretaries

4% Legal Secretaries

6% Secretaries, except legal, medical, and executive

Based on statistics from the Occupational Outlook Handbook, Bureau of Labor Statistics. How much each is expected to grow between 2010 and 2020.

Okay, so the demand is there now and is expected to be there for a long time. Many of the skills required to do these jobs can be transferred over from other career paths such as marketing, event planning, client relations, and more. These jobs do not require nearly as much training as some of the other positions we fill (computer technicians, manufacturing engineers, etc.). With this job outlook, I predict there will be even more skilled administrative workers because the work will be there and training is not difficult to come by.

On its 2013 100 Best Jobs list, US News ranked the job of administrative assistant as the number 83 best job (and rightfully so). A good administrative assistant and admin support staff is critical in business. Not only do we need these workers for help with our clerical work, but to support our organizations as a whole. They help schedule and coordinate meetings, create presentations, and so much more.

As far as skills and training goes, most of our clients prefer the employees who fill their administrative support positions have at least an Associates Degree or several years of experience. Good communication skills are a must. Training can be done at local community colleges or big universities. What skills and qualifications do you prefer your admin support staff have?

If you need help filling these positions, please contact us. We are a staffing firm that specializes in filling administrative supportinformation technology, and manufacturing/industrial jobs.
